Pharmaceuticals found in fish across U.S.
IRVINE, CA, March 25, 2009 – We would like to direct your attention to the fourth article in a series of articles released by the Associated Press regarding pharmaceuticals contaminating our environment. This probing article details findings from a first nationwide study regarding human drugs in fish tissue. Due to the compelling results, these findings have prompted the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to significantly expand similar ongoing research to more than 150 different locations.

The initial study was performed on fish caught near wastewater treatment plants serving five major U.S. cities and resulted in the findings of residues of pharmaceuticals in the fish, including medicines used to treat high cholesterol, allergies, high blood pressure, bipolar disorder and depression, researchers reported Wednesday.
