Vestara: Meds lurk in drinking water

IRVINE, CA, March 10, 2008
– We would like to direct your attention to the first in a series of articles released by the Associated Press regarding the discovery of pharmaceutical waste in U.S. drinking water. Medical waste in U.S. drinking water is a serious public health issue that has now become front-page news, as this newly released report details. The AP completed a five-month investigation and discovered that small quantities of drugs, including antibiotics, sex hormones, and anti-seizure compounds, were present in public drinking water supplied to over 40 million Americans across the U.S.

An innovator in providing technology solutions to the problem of pharmaceutical waste management, Vestara is strategically focused on reducing the risks to our health and environment through proper and consistent pharmaceutical waste management. The Company’s premier product, the EcoRex™ greatly improves pharmaceutical waste processes and can virtually eliminate hospital pharmaceutical waste from entering our groundwater or the broader environment. In addition to improving water quality, the EcoRex™ can help hospitals, which are major generators of pharmaceutical waste, minimize their liabilities and negative press.

The first release of this AP report represents a significant public relations opportunity for Vestara and coincides with the recent commercialization and first shipment of the EcoRex™ to Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System in March 2008. With expanding public awareness regarding the hazards of pharmaceutical waste in our public water supply, we believe that the healthcare industry has no choice but to reevaluate current medical disposal methods. Vestara is generating momentum and is positioned strategically to assist hospital administrators to proactively address what has become a well-publicized public health problem.
